Sample Agreement (pdf)

Here is a sample contract to serve as a model for how you might want to build your gardening relationship. Yards are a privately owned space, and gardening is hard work; so make sure everyone’s expectations are understood from the start so things don’t get too messy. A big thank you to the Sustainable Economies Law Center in Oakland, CA for drafting this agreement.

Help spread the word:

Check out our Y2G FLYER (color or black and white).  If you're looking for gardeners or garden-space in your area, you can print off a few of these and give them to neighbors, or post them in community spaces.  Check back for more Y2G materials soon (including educational and informational materials).

Yards to Gardens has partnered with the city of Minneapolis to help fight climate change by promoting the MN Energy Challenge. Everyone knows that gardening is healthy, nurturing, educational and can save you money when you grow your food at home. But few people realize that gardening can actually help fight global warming in two ways:
#1 Gardening produces far more biomass than lawns thereby sequestering more carbon in the soil than regular grass.
#2 The average plate of food travels 1500 miles from farm to fork and uses 10 calories of fossil fuel for every one calorie of food produced. By growing food at home you help to reduce the amount of carbon emissions created by this wasteful global food system.

Take the energy challenge, and make sure to list your Energy Challenge Team as "Yards to Gardens." For more ways to prevent Global Warming click here to take the MN Energy Challenge!
